Hello,

My name is Jordan Blanding and I am a graduate of the University of South Carolina (USC) Sumter.

When I ask people to describe me in a couple of words, they say "overachiever" and motivator. I have always been about the business of finishing out strong. Over the years being a motivator and going above and beyond have been one of my top priorities. Pushing others and encouraging me has made me a better person. I have had the opportunity to work with students in elementary school, as well as a college over the years. I believe that my success can push other students to reach whatever goal they want to reach in life with me giving them a pathway to success.

After graduating from USC Sumter, I will enroll in the USC Aiken at USC Sumter Elementary Education Program. I have chosen to pursue a career in education because of the impact I can have on a child’s life. A teacher can influence a child both inside and outside of the classroom. It is my desire to motivate each child to do the best he/she can.

Throughout my journey at USC Sumter, I have been a part of the Opportunity Scholars Program (OSP) and the Call Me MISTER Program. These two co-curricular experiences allowed me to apply what I was learning in the classroom. Being able to communicate well with others and having a mentor are two of the most important skills I learned from my time at USC Sumter.

Improving test scores for students enrolled in K-12 is the problem I decided to tackle in my leadership section. This is something that I am concerned about and want to see a change in. This will be accomplished through the creation of a mentoring program. The key insights I gained in the classroom and beyond at USC Sumter will be the cornerstone of the mentoring program. It is my goal to not only educate children but show them how to be servant leaders in our community, nation, and world.

In this ePortfolio, you can read more about the key insights I learned and developed at USC Sumter, as well as the problem I would like to solve in the leadership section.
